The Score of Life

One of the best things in this world, if not the best thing, would have to be music. I think a lot of people would have to agree with me on this, as many people live for music. Music is an art. It’s a way some people show themselves to the world, expressing the emotions that words can’t begin to describe.

A fantastic movie coupled with a fantastic soundtrack is Garden State, written, directed and starred by Zach Braff… you know, the guy from Scrubs. The soundtrack from this movie was also hand-picked by Zach Braff and enhances the movie immensely. I believe that this soundtrack is one of the best I have ever heard. Each track is played in perfect timing as a story about ‘you only have one chance at life’ plays out.

All these songs have become favourites of mine, but if I had to choose a select few tracks that stand out the most to me, these would be the ones… “Caring Is Creepy” by The Shins, “In the Waiting Line” by Zero 7, “The Only Living Boy in New York” by Simon and Garfunkel, “Let Go” by Frou Frou, “Lebanese Blonde” by Thievery Corporation and “New Slang” by The Shins. Like I said, there a lot of good tracks!

Zach describes this hand picked soundtrack as:

a mix of all the music that I felt was scoring
my life at the time I was writing the screenplay.

I couldn’t agree with this statement more, in the fact that the songs you listen to everyday can shape the way you think, the way you feel and what you do in life. Recently I have been listening to Ministry of Sounds: Chillout Sessions: Summer Collection 2004 which I bought back in the summer of 03/04 (funnily enough). While listening to this album recently, I feel like I’m back in that summer, driving around the Red Corolla and just loving the summer freedom.

There are so many of these kinds of ‘bunches’ of songs, where just listening to them I can imagine where I was when I was listening to them non-stop. For example the Yellowcard album “Ocean Avenue” and The Used’s self titled album. It’s these sorts of compilations that can make a difference to one’s mood, therefore feelings and therefore life. Songs that you could add to your own “Score of your life.” If you have an oppurtunity to watch Garden State, do it!

Zach accepted a Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. To read up more on this fantastic Movie, it’s soundtrack and fantastic themes, feel free to click here.

Can you think of a time that you can remember with memories of songs and albums? Please let me know by leaving a comment!
Thanks for reading, and as for me and mine, I’m off. Goodnight.

DUDE! For the last week, ive been writing down the names of songs that push me over the edge. And i was gonna post it on my blog! Songs like Fix You by Coldplay. Amazing song!

For about 4-5 years now, ive expirenced this desire towards music. Cliche i know, but music is my drug. Ive got an addiction to music. I hate listening to slience. I prefer, relaxing to something soothing like American Analog Set.

Whenever i listen Noise and Kisses by the Used, it reminds me of the time, when we were driving around mount marther at like 3 am, and we both agreed how awesome that song was.

Beastie Boys-Interglatic reminds me of summer. I remember listen to this song, reading a book in an airconditioned room because it was so freggin hot out.

First time it was during my visit of Cyprus although this country is really nice: the fabulous ocean with constant sunshine and a plenty of orange trees, wonderful sunshines and sunsets and moon-glades.
