Robbie's Inner Workings…

Another one bites the dust!

What does Christmas mean to you? Why do you celebrate Christmas? Perhaps for religious reasons? Maybe you just enjoy it? Or maybe it’s all you’ve ever known and it’s tradition… For me, it’s all of the above. Religious, enjoyment, and traditional reasons are why I celebrate this one day each year. But as I grow older I begin to wonder why almost all of the western world celebrates this holiday? The whole reason for this holiday originally was to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Now, how can people celebrate a Holiday like this and not believe that Jesus existed? It’s like celebrating Valentine’s Day while you don’t believe in Love. It’s like celebrating thanksgiving and not believing in Pilgrims. It has become a holiday that is primarily placed on the retail calendars, taking advantage of people’s liking of giving presents to each other by bumping up prices and raking in profits. But I believe this year, retail sales decreased dramatically in Melbourne (at least the shopping centres i visited during) and will continue to decrease as each year goes on. Perhaps people are realising the real reason and importance of Christmas and buying less presents. I also think it could be because there’s not really anything new on the shelves these days, it’s just the same old crap.

Well, another Christmas is over and as we head into the new year we think about our new year’s resolutions. What is your new year’s resolution? I’ve never really made any real resolutions nor gone through with any (serious or not). I would love to hear what your new year’s resolution might be if you’d like to leave it in the comments. I will have a think of what I might like to accomplish this year and I’ll let you know in my next post.

Currently I am sitting in bed. Yes that’s right, i’m in bed. For those that don’t know, I finally purchased my very own laptop! It’s a beautiful Apple Powerbook and I absolutely love it! It’s just great! I mean… i’m in bed! It doesn’t get much better than that! I plan to use it primarily for freelancing which I plan to start within the next month officially. I believe I have the ability to be quite successful, but I’m just worried about actually getting the work to do. But i’m hoping that once word gets out about how good I am, business should pick up.
On a similar note I also got my own 30GB Black iPod Video which I also love! Both of these products are super sexy and I can’t imagine myself looking back (to windows).

That’s pretty much all I’ve got to say at the moment I think. I will hopefully post at least once before I go to adelaide for my summer break (which I can’t wait to get to and am in desperate need for)! If I didn’t say it to you personally I’m sorry, but i’ll say it now anyway – Merry Christmas! I hope you had a great day whatever you were doing!

P.s. I am changing to the old theme as it is no longer Christmas. But I’ll be working on something new soon as well so keep an eye out for that!

Napoleon Dynamite

Howdy peoples!
Just thought I’d inform you on a great movie I watched the other night! Napoleon Dynamite! I had massive expectations for this movie, with all the hype from friends and whatnot, so unfortunately I was a little dissapointed by it, but still a fantastic flick! The more I watch it the more I like it! It’s a different kind of humour to what you might imagine. As in it’s not your typical ‘comedy’ film with your one liners and toilet humour like most movies, it’s different. I’m not sure what it is, but I really like this movie. Where he lives, where he goes to school and all that are all key factors to what makes this movie great! And how Napoleon Dynamite looks… well.. take a look!

Napoleon Dynamite

And the other characters that back this guy up are fantastic! Pedro! Kip! Uncle Rico and Tina (the llama) all make this movie that little extra funny! Funnily enough the guy who played Napoleon Dynamite actually looks normal!

Jon Heder

*This next bit was written a few days later*

I just watched the movie with the commentary which includes jon heder (napoleon dynamite) and the writer. And what made this movie even better was listening to the writer talk about how almost every situation in this movie had happened to his brother! And it makes it funnier to know that these things actually happened!

*This next bit was written today*

Another thing that made me love this movie even more and even begin to be proud of it is the fact that Jeremy Coon (Producer/Editor) did all the editing for the film on a single mac computer, and for less than $6,000. The film was then taken to a film festival where Fox searchlight pictures picked it up for a cool 3.2 million. Not bad for a first timer!

Anyways, I think that you have to watch it more than once to truly enjoy it! It’s definately a different sort of comedy that relies on a true sense of humour. And I believe that if you didn’t think Napoleon’s line about girls wanting guys with skills was funny (at least the first time) I suspect no amount of explanation will bring that particular breed of humor to you.

Deserve: To be worthy of; merit.

I’ve tried many ways to start this post by being a smartarse. Trying to express my feelings through humour. But I couldn’t figure out anything that I liked, so I’m just gonna come straight out and say it. I HATE DISLIKE POMS!! That’s right. Hate Dislike ‘em.

I’ve been watching the cricket tonight, in the hopes that we might win this game and therefore keep The Ashes from going to England. But because of “bad light” and a pussy no balls weak english captain, they are wasting time sitting in the rooms, waiting for light to come back. Sure, it’s tactical for the win, because it means that we can’t continue to get the bastards out, but the Poms stupidity astounds me! Ok, shall i put myself in a Pom-attending-the-game’s shoes? – ‘You know what, I think I might go to the game, pay my money, sit around for a couple of overs, and then cheer when they go off the ground. That sounds fun!’ – What a bunch of dickheads!

Now you might say – reverse the situation, what would Australia do? – Well, like Dean Jones said on the tele earlier. I would like to think that Ponting, in the spirit of the game, would continue on. And Australia, in games previously played throughout the last decade or so have been willing to play in rain, hail or shine no matter what the situation is.

The commentators even said how bad the decision is to go inside – the whole point is because the fast bowling puts the batsmen at risk coz they have trouble seeing the ball – but when the umpy gives Ponting the option to use spin bowlers on both ends, then changes his mind and sends everyone inside… Can anyone say BRIBE?! Especially when spin bowlers have almost a 0% chance of injuring a batsman with such slow bowling. But i don’t blame Michael Vaughan for being shit-scared to face one of the greatest spin bowlers of all time. WARNEY!!!

Something else the commentators said that I really liked was – in England, you either play in bad light, or you don’t play. – It’s such a dreary place England. Dull and boring. But that’s all I have to really say about it all. I’m making myself angry.

Oh, one more thing. Have you ever noticed that Poms are really really unattractive? Take notice next time…

Oh – and if it’s any consolation, Luke hates them too!

Anyways, once again signing off…
